Excel 2002 SP3
Win XP HE SP1
hi,
when i click on an xls file in windows explorer it opens the file in
excel; however, if i am looking for another xls file and repeat same
procedure, it opens the xls file in a *separate* instance of excel.
on and on so i can find myself s'times with up to 5 or 6 multiple
instances of excel all running concurrently.
is there a way to prevent this? i.e. make all xls files opened or
clicked-on in windows explorer open in the same instance of
excel--barring opening them up all at once but sequentially in time, as
needed?
tx.

Try the usual fix(es) for this problem.
Tools>Options>General uncheck "Ignore other Applications"
Exit Excel and try again
If this doesn't work try to re-register Excel
Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar
1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver
You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
