Lock pivot chart type?

I have a pivot chart set up and have it as a "column - line 2-axis"
chart type.  Everytime I choose something different to display in the
chart, it reverts back to a plain ol' column chart type.

I wrote a quick macro to detect the pivot chart change and set it to
the "column-line 2-axis" chart type, BUT is there an easier way to lock
the chart type without using a macro?

This is a known problem with pivot charts. There's information in the
following MSKB article, which suggests the solution you've already used
-- using a macro to reapply the formatting:
