I have a set of cells that show the fraction of #complete/#total.  They
are formatted as fractions so that I can custom format them such that
those >=50% turn green and those <50% turn red.  The problem is that
for a completion of say 8/10, excel automatically simplifies to 4/5.
Is is possible for excel to still recognize the cell as a fraction but
not simplify?

8/10 was just an example.  It could be 3/6 or 5/15.  Is there a way to
do this for all fractions?
Thanks!

<Is there a way to do this for all fractions?>

To do what? When does it have to be 3/6, not 6/12, when 5/15, not 1/3?

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.  I want any fraction to
remain as is -- even if it is in unsimplified form.

< I want any fraction to remain as is>

Do you mean that the fraction is not the result of a formula, but of manual input?

That is correct-- the fraction comes from manual input.

Then you'll have to Custom format them with the denominator you need, like

?/15
?/6
?/12

etc

Matt,

You could use =A1 & "/" & B1

but it would change to text, and Excel thinks its a date. But it would
look as you asked... Use conditional formatting to test the diviasion of
A1/B1.
