I am sure you're familiar with the little broom icon next to a cell
that shows up to correct your formatting... the problem is that is
blocks stuff sometimes, and it's really frustrating when I can't get
it to go away.  Anyone know how to prevent this thing from showing up
at all?

Have you tried Pressing the Esc (Escape) button

Hope this helps

Andrew

Tools|Options|Edit tab

Uncheck "show paste options buttons"
and maybe "show insert options buttons"

You may want to look at Tools|Options|Error checking tab
to see if there's stuff you don't like there, too.
