An XLS file (workbook) of mine contained a macro that I never used,
and I was annoyed that whenever I opened it I was warned:
[filename] contains macros. Macros may contain viruses.
It is always safe to disable macros, but if the macros are
legitimate, you might lose some functionality.
[Disable Macros] [Enable Macros] [More Info]
So I went to Tools/Macro/Macros, selected the only macro, hit
Delete and it was gone. Then I saved my file.
But now when I open the file, I still get the same warning, and if
I go Tools/Macro/Macros the list is blank.
How can I eliminate the "contains macros" warning for a workbook
which does not, in fact, contain any macros?
I get the same warning whether opening the file in Excel 2000 or 2003.

Open the file. Hit Alt+F11. You should see a Module on the left-hand side.
Right-click it and remove it, telling it you do NOT want to export it first.
For more information/graphics to show you how:

Wow, that fixed it! Anne, you're a genius! Thank you so much!
Other than asking my question here as I did (or discovering your web
page on my own), how could I have guessed that solution? I had opened
Excel Help and searched for "remove macros" and every other combination
of keywords I could think of and the answer just wasn't there.
