MS Office Forum / Excel / New Users / March 2007"Name Conflict" when Excel 2007 open an old worksheet
Hi all, An "Name Conflict" error message pop-up "Name cannot be the same as a built-in name". That worksheet was created by Excel 2000 and also could open on Excel 2003 without any error message. Change the worksheet file name could not solve the problem after tested. Why? Just because it can open in XL2003 doesn't mean it should open in XL2007. And as you've seen for yourself, it's not the filename. A guess: you have defined names that happen to match cell addresses in the new grid, e.g., ABC123456 was a valid name in XL2003 and prior, but isn't in XL2007. If you can't open the file at all under XL2007, do you still have XL2003 or XL2000? If so, you'll need to open the file in the older version, change the name(s), resave, then open in XL2007. There could be new built-in names in XL2007 like the older Print_Area and Print_Titles that Excel uses for new functionality. If so, you'll need to change those defined names.
