Formula won't update

I have a number of spreadsheets with formulae that I have been using for
years.  For no apparent reason, the formulae no longer update themselves when
I enter new data.

They do work if I press 'Save'.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to what has caused this, and
how to resolve the problem.

Hi

It sounds as though Calculation has switched to Manual

Tools>Options>Calculation>tick automatic

The mode gets set by the setting of the first workbook you open in a
session. It probably means that the first workbook you have started
opening now, is set to Manual, that is why the behaviour has altered.
Set that one to Automatic, save it and then you should be OK.

A thousand thanks -that worked perfectly!  Any ideas why the first sheet set
itself to 'manual'?
