Gray Grid Lines disappear

When I clear a highlighted cell, the gray grid lines disappear. How do I get
them back? I am using Microsoft Office Professional 2003.

"Highlight" means background color or?

How are you clearing the cell?

Generally this is caused by the background color being set to white.

I may be answering a question you haven't asked, as I'm not only unclear
what you mean by "highlighted" (filled with color?), but I'm also not sure
what "clearing" (I'm assuming you mean deleting data) would have to do with
the disappearing gridlines.

That having been said, I use Excel2003 and have noticed that those grey
gridlines do "disappear" when one color-fills the cells.

You can restore those gridlines (although they'll appear black, not grey) by
doing the following:

Select the affected cells (actually, you might as well select the entire
sheet)
Go to Format > Cells > Border
Click "Outside" and "Inside"
Click OK

Apologies if I've totally misunderstood your problem . . . .

Just for info.

You can select a color for the borders at the borders dialog.

Yes, I see that now ---- and options to change the line styles as well.
Thank you.

But --- oddly enough --- no matter what line style I chose and no matter
what color I chose, the result was always black and always standard line
style.

I'm puzzled. It sure LOOKS like I've got the ability to change line colors
and styles, but no matter whether I select portions of the sheet or the
entire sheet, it just didn't seem to work. What do you suppose I'm doing
wrong?

I shouldn't have been so quick to hit the "Send" button on that one -----
just now figured it out.
I need to FIRST choose the color, THEN the line style, and THEN click
"Outline" and "Inside" borders . . . I knew there was some way it HAD to
work ...
