I click on the printer icon in Excel and get a "Save As" screen.  The "Save
As" screen leads nowhere.  What's wrong?  What can I do?

Sounds like some macro has redefined it. Try
    View | Toolbars | Customize
and reset the Standard toolbar.

Beyond that, look for malicious or just badly programmed macros.
Check your security settings, check your Excel startup directory and
personal.xls file, and so forth.

Stan's suggestion will reset all the icons on the toolbar.

If you want to just try resetting that single icon.

Tools|Customize
rightclick on the printer icon
choose reset

Also check to be sure your default printer isn't set to Adobe PDF or
some other print-to-file setting.  That would bring up a save as
dialog.
