I'm using Win'XP and Office 2003.  Pressing the print button in Excel brings
up a "Saved As" dialog box.  Rebooting doesn't change a thing.  Following
through on the "Save As" dialog box doesn't lead anywhere.  Been using Excel
for months and never saw anything like it.  What am I doing wrong?  Please
help.

They were worthless though, because I had described it as a Word problem and
had misposted it to the Word group.  Sorry about that!

You posted to the excel newsgroup on Saturday and got some replies.

If you're looking for old posts:

Or you can use google (maybe a few hours behind) to search for stuff you've
posted (and find the replies, too)

In all my various posts I havn't seen an answer to my problem or anything
that claims to be an answer.

So I feel as though I shoiuld give a little more information.  When I hit
the print button in Excel I receive a screen that offers to write a file to
the "My Documents" directory.  The file has the same name as the file I am
working with plus an extension of "midi".  If I write the file and later
double click it, there opens up what appears to be an exact copy of the
Excel file I was originally working in.  Clicking the print button again
reveals an identical file write screen.

There are at least two claimed ways of printing from Excel.  Opening the
file menu and clicking on the preview item opens up a preview screen.  This
screen does have a print button.  Clicking on the Print button leads to the
same Print Dialog as before.

Removing and reinstralling Microsoft Office doesn't help.  As does
installing a second copy of Windows XP, and another copy of Office 2003.

I've opened up a second document that hasn't been used for a long time.
Same problem when I try to print.

This problem is no more than a few days old.  I've been using Excel for many
months with no problem.  But now there seems to be no way of doing a real
print from my copy of Excel on my machine.

Don

You have your printer default set to Microsoft Office Document Image Writer
which will write to a *.mdi file

Change your printer setup.

With the limited description that you gave in your previous post, I'd guess that
Stan Brown got pretty darn close:
