Forgive the O.T. lean but this is the only repository I know for the
specific titans that I wish to ask - and it's in the interest of saving
some of you guy's/gal's [future] time due to my haphazardly keeping up.
<g>

I'd like to automate monitoring so I can keep up with new
articles/feeds. It seems that you somehow amazingly all read every
gainer/jensen/dick's/j-walk etc., etc. and I'm sure you have some
tricks. How do you folks consolidate your daily monitoring of
pages/blogs/feeds?

I seem to note 3 situations (4 if you count forums and n/g's but they're
so trafficked that they're just a daily routine): (1)email subscription
(2)RSS feeds (3)webpages without RSS.

An example of (1) is Chip's new "newsletter." I understand how that
works :) but rarely see that option elsewhere. (2) includes mrexcel's
podcast, j-walkblog, dick's, etc. I'm minimally aware that some sources
use RSS and that you manage these with "RSS readers" or "aggregators."
Clearly I'd benefit from a beginners FAQ on RSS for users. I've heard of
Google Reader and bloglines - do I want these both? Then what do you do
with http://www.dailydoseofexcel.com/feed/ ?

I'm asking with regard to an always-online PC - no iPod or anything
else. Thanks.

I use Bloglines to track the blogs/sites that I'm interested in. It's
free, and works well for me:

There's information here about how aggregators work:

http://www.rss-specifications.com/aggregator-how-to.htm

Most sites will have an RSS button. Click that, then copy the URL to
Bloglines, to add it to your list of feeds. The Bloglines notifier sits
in the system tray, and alerts you when one of the feeds is updated.
