Just an educated guess but go to the Tools menu, click Options, click on the
General tab, and see if that filename is in the "At startup, open all files
in:" if it is erase it. This is the only thing i know of that will do this.

You could have that file stored in your XLSTART folder or in your
Tools>Options>General "at startup, open all files in"
Most folks generally leave that dialog empty.
Or you may have a shortcut to Excel that passes a command to open that file.

Many thanks for your suggestions, but I had already checked this and
the dailogue box is empty for this option and there is no reference to
this particular file.

box is empty and has no reference to open this file.
