Hi to All,

I used the Tools > Customize command to create some custom button
buttons which I placed on an existing toolbar and assigned macros
to.   After closing Excel and reopening the buttons vanish every
time.  Why are they volatile and how can I make them permanent?

Thanks for your help,

Cheers,

RonW.

Toolbar and menu customozations are saved in a file named Excelxx.XLB  where xx
is your version of Excel.

Usually will be located at......................

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel

Maybe you don't have permission to save to that folder or the folder in which is
may be stored if not that one.

Have a look for *.xlb file using Windows file search.

See where it is and note the size and date.

Make some changes in Excel to a Toolbar, close Excel and see what happens to
your *.xlb file.

Thank you Gord,

I made sure that Excel11.xlb was open this time before setting up my
custom macro buttons,
saved everything, closed excel then reopened again and Presto! my new
custom buttons now
remain alive and well!

I deleted the standard Excel shortcut and made a new one like this:

Target: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE"
Excel11.xlb

Start in: "C:\Documents and Settings\Ronald\Application Data\Microsoft
\Excel\"

Using the above to start Excel is working just fine . . .

Thanks for the update Ron.

Something wrong however.

The excel11.xlb should open whenever Excel is started and should not need
coaxing via shortcut.
