This is an AutoCorrect feature - Excel kindly giving you the Registered
Trademark symbol. Use Tools | AutoCorrect Options; on the AutoCorrect tab
near the top of the list you will probably see (c), (r) and (tm). Select the
ones you do not want and press the Delete button on the dialog.
The alternative is just after Excel makes the conversion, press control+Z
(undo)
