With your Contacts info in columns in Excel..................

Name.........Address..........emaoil.........whatever

Save the workbook after giving your list a defined
name through Insert>Name>Define.

Outlook likes that.

With Outlook open go to File>Import Export>"Import from another program or file"

Follow your nose from there to choose your Excel workbook.

Note: the mapping can be done while importing.

To see the full list of fields Outlook has, export some of your your contacts to
a new Excel workbook to get an idea of what's available for mapping.

Thanks for your input but I am still having a problem importing my contacts.
My spreadsheet is exactly as your sample ie: Name....
Address......phone....etc.
but when I try to import the file I get a error window that says    "Unable
to load File" I'm using Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager.
I'm not sure what you mean by giving the list a defined name through
Insert>Name>Define. could you elaborate please?

I don't use 2007 so don't know where all the commands are located but I am sure
that defining a name to a range still exists.

See Ron de Bruin's site for where to find the commands in 2007.

My experience with Outlook and importing from Excel has been with standard
Outlook 2003.........not with the Business Contact Manager.

"Unable to load file" should have more info with it

One thing I do know is the Excel file must not be in use(open) when you attempt
to import.

Perhaps you would be better off posing your question in an Outlook news group or
wait for someone to jump in here.
