Not all files. I have many new files, created in 2007, that open/close fine.
I made the following test: I created a new blank 2007 file, open the
"problematic" one and copy the sheets (around 15) one by one to the new 2007
file. The problem continues in the new file too. Then, I tried to copy sheets
separatelly, trying to isolate the problem. After each sheet, I closed/reopen
the file. But I didn't reach any conclusion; the file becomes slowly after
each sheet (it means, not a single/problematic sheet is causing the problem).

Hmm. Then I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. I remember having one file that
gave me similar problems a long time ago (I forget which version I was
migrating to). I did the same thing you did -- copied each sheet
individually -- and got the same results. I finally had to recreate the
entire file. Fortunately for me, I only had one file that was a problem.
Do you have anything in your personal.xls file that might be running in the
background that is slowing things up? How about different option settings
in 2007 vs 2002? Autocalc turned on vs off? I don't know. I'm just
grasping now.
