Excel 2003 case sensitive problems with New Database Query

I'm new to doing Database Queries in Excel but I'm having a case
sensitive problem.  I have the same install and I'm working with the
same files as my coworkers but when we each perform the exact same
steps my results are case sensitive and theirs are not.  This is what
I do.

I have two workseets with similar alpha-numeric data in a column that
I want to compare.
I go to Data - Import External Data - New Database Query.
I pick Excel Files* and I have the wizard turned off.
I open my Excel workbook with the two worksheets in question.
I pick each of the Table$ sheets and I'm returned to the Microsoft
Query program.
In Query from Excel files box I create a join Where the Left = the
Right criteria.
Then I drag my columns to to the results window.
Then I return data to Microsoft Excel.

When I do this I only get exact case matches but when my coworker does
it they get matches of upper and lower cases.  We appear to have the
exact same Excel options set and are using the same file.  Can anyone
tell me how to fix this so that my matches are not case sensitive or
are case insensitive?

Sorry for my explanation I've just started doing these a few weeks ago
and stumbled on this problem.
Thanks

Any help would be so appreciated.  Even some direction.  Is this the
right forum for this?
