Do you not see my reply of yesterday?

Here it is again.............................

What are the settings for Short Date under your Windows Regional Seetings.

28.03.08 may not be a valid date and is  treated as text.

What happens when you enter a date such as  3/23/08 and copy down?

Gord,

The short date in regional setting is 3/23/08.
when I input date as3/23/08 it is accepted as date and the fill handle works
well. but if date is input as 23.03.08(  read as march 23 08) then fill
handle fills as 23.03.09, this occurs even though the format cells is
selected as date format.

Your short date settings are m/dd/yy

Why are you attempting to enter dates as dd/mm/yy?

These become text when entered so the incrementing works as it should for text.

Simply changing the format in Excel will not turn 23.03.08 into a valid date.

With the 23.03.08 type dates, run them through Data>Text to Columns

Data>Text to Columns>Next>Next>Column Data Format>Date>DMY will change 23.03.08
to 3/23/08
