MS Office Forum / Excel / New Users / April 2008How to use "Distributed(Indent)" ?
There is an option of "Distributed(Indent)" for Format Cells/Alignment. I experimented but it did exactly the same as "Center". Does anyone know what else "Distributed(Indent)" can do other than centering? Try putting a few words in the cell. Distributed indent spreads the words across the cell. Experiment with it. Works ok for me in Excel 2007. A1 = try this out Right click A1, Format cells>Alignment tab>Distributed (Indent)>Indent = 2>OK A1 appears as: __try__this__out__ If the column isn't wide enough to support the indent then I get a "centered" appearance: __try this out__ Make sure the column is wide enough to support the indent size. Thanks for your response. I tried as you suggested and found it work as your example. This made me realize that I misunderstood what the "Distributed" would do. I thought that "Distributed" would distribute characters instead of words as changing abc____________ to ___a___b___c___. I wanted to adjust spacing between chinese characters but it appears Excel treats each chinese character as if it is English alphabet so that it can not be done. Hi Churin, If what you say is correct, couldn't you therefore just stick a space between each character? So instead of typing "abc" which gives you "_____abc_____", you could type "a b c" which would give you "a_____b_____c" depending on how wide the column is. Or, you could set an indent as well in which case you could get "__a__b__c__". Maybe I have misunderstood what you are after. As indicated in my previous post words could be distributed in the cell but not individual alphabet even though there is only one word in the cell. Making thing a little complex, I attempted to use the format feature with Japanese characters in the cell but it did not "distribute" the characters although each character is equivalent to English word. Maybe this is a limitation of English version of Excell 2007 when using Japanese characters on it.
