Excel 2007 - migrating (especially keyboard) from Excel 2003

Hi all - first post to this ng

I've just had my first play with Excel 2007 and (while I appreciate things
move on) I don't like the new ribbon interface.   In particular it's
irritating me that (having been an Excel user since 1994) I consider myself
something of an expert - yet this new interface is actually slowing me down.

I've heard (can't remember where now) that there's a way to put the old
interface back (but you need to buy some 3rd party software to do this).
Is this true?   Is this the only way to do it?

I just wondered if there was an update which included a way to disable the
ribbon.   My understanding is that little has actually been removed in terms
of functionality but it's just the interface that's different.

Thanks

You will find if you stick with it that it ill get better, we have our whole
business on XL2007 will little or no complaints.

There is no 'classic' interface available without paying, but it really is
worth the time investment as this will not go away. IMHO

Thanks - I mean this with all sincerity - I'm not trolling or looking for an
argument - but "I wish the ribbon would go away".   I've been using Excel
since 1995 and without wishing to blow my own trumpet - I'm a pretty
advanced user.   I've worked in several offices for large corporations and
there's been nobody to touch me as regards Excel knowhow or speed of
producing good spreadsheets.   It's disappointing that the knowhow is still
there but the new interface is actually slowing me down.   I simply don't
see how this is going to do anything but slow down keyboard users like
myself.   It's like a pack of playing cards have been thrown up and all
landed in different piles.

I take your point about needing to simply learn the new interface but until
my employer decides to move to Office 2007, I will definitely stick with
2003.   The only good thing I have to say about the new interface thus far
is that freezing row 1:1 is a click or two faster - hardly a quantum leap.

Please don't get me wrong - I am not looking for an argument - and I do
realise things move on but I simply don't believe this is an improvement.

You could download the free addin from Shah Shailesh to get a 2003 look-alike.

Download  XL Menu 2003

I don't run 2007 so cannot vouch for the add-in personally but others have
recommended it.

I totally agree with you. Why fix something that isn't broken?! In the near
future I will be much less productive. I'll try the add on. I know lot's of
people who'll want it if it works.

BTW if you find difficult to search command in the Ribbon
(Word, Excel and PowerPoint) , there is a nice addon "Search Commands" by
Microsoft Office Labs from below site
