Custom locking of columns and panes [Excel 2007]

Hello!

Is it possible to lock columns and panes so that they NEVER move?
Normally, locked panes remain visible when scrolling up and down, while
locked columns remain visible when scrolling right and left. I`d like to
have the first 8 columns and the first 5 panes visible simultaneously
even when I go to, say, cell VX12345.

And a second question:

Is it possible to lock a number of randomly selected columns? For
example the 1st, 5th and 8th column.

Greetings
Peter

Usually one talks about columns and rows being frozen rather than rows and
panes.  Panes are the result of freezing columns and rows.  Regardless, if
you go to cell I9 and select Freeze Panes from the View tab you'll get 8
frozen columns and 5 frozen rows.

For the second question I think you could effectively achieve that by hiding
columns 2-4, 6 and 7 before freezing panes.

Yes, I meant rows and columns. Sorry for the bad english.

It`s not quite what I wanted to achieve.  Now I have a fixed rectangle
from A1 to H8. What I wanted is the WHOLE column A (example) to be
locked and simultaneously the WHOLE row 1 to be locked. The movable area
should have an upper left corner in the cell B2.

Now I think it just can`t be possible, because in such a case the
coordinates of cells would change with every move. Or maybe it is possible?

I guess I don't understand what you mean by the "WHOLE" because I would just
select cell B2 and then Freeze Panes, which you obviously already know how
to do.  After this freeze, column A and row 1 are always in view although
what part of column A and row 1 you see depends on where you scroll to.

That`s the point! I wanted to always see the same part of column A and
row 1, no matter where I scroll the rest of the sheet. It would be like
moving a sheet of paper under a fixed L-shaped frame.

Now I start to realize, it just wouldn`t make sense in a spreadsheet,
because it would make the coordinates of cells not constant.

I redesigned my spreadsheet so I don`t need this anymore.

Thank`s for your help :)

Greetings from Poland
Peter
