Hi
- first select all cell you DON'T want to protect
- goto 'Format - Cells - Protection' and uncheck 'Locked'
- Now protect the sheet ('Tools - Protect - Protect sheet')

To add to what Frank has said, if you ar using Excel 2002 (XP) o
greater, you have much more options are your fingertips than i
previous versions.  When you do as described above by Frank, after yo
hit Protect Sheet, a box will pop up and allow you to select what you
user's are able to do to the sheet or not.  You can make it so the
cannot select locked cells, not insert/delete rows, not use autofilter
etc; very handy feature
