I have searched this forum high and low.  Did you ever know that you used
something that works but then you cant remember how you did it?  Well that is
me right now

I have a drop down being populated from a data connection to a simple SQL
table.

What I want is for the drop down to be blank with no selection when the form
opens.  Right now it shows the first item in the table. Sort of like the
"select one" when you manually populate a drop down.

It works on all my other forms but I am stumped how I did it.

HELP!!

By default, the first item is always blank, unless you added a rule when
opening the form? Check Tools > Form Options > Open and Save tab > Rules (I'm
assuming you're still using InfoPath 2003) whether you added a rule that will
set the value of the field that represents the drop-down list box.

I rebuilt the form from scratch and the problem went away.  So I can only
assume that the template became corrupted.

BUT....................  I use a rule to set the value of other fields and
while it works on field A and leaves it blank until a drop down is selected,
Field B is set as the first item in the table.
