Data Connection Timeout using Design Checker

I am currently using InfoPath 2007, and Moss 2007, with Infopath Forms
services.  All of a sudden I now am getting  the following error when tring
to use Design Checker on a brower-compatable form.  "InfoPath either cannot
connect to the data source or the service has timed out."  Has anyone else
ever seen this error or have any suggestions.

I can preview the form and make the correct dataconnection with no problem.
I can even publish the form.  It says it is not browser enable, but it is
actually.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pam

Hello,

As your error message says, your data source may be timing out.  There is a
timeout setting for data connections via the Sharepoint infopath forms
services management console in the Sharepoint Admin site.  You can change the
data connection timeout to make it a longer time, this would help isolate if
that is the issue or not.

If you are previewing the form via Infopath then the same timeout value
doesn't apply.  I think Infopath is a lot more patient by default so what
works fine in preview mode may not work in forms services mode.

Are you using Data Connections via Sharepoint, or are the data connections
embedded in the form?  Migrating the data connections from the form to a
Sharepoint data connection library may also help, if only to manage the data
connections.

Gavin,

I'll have the administrator look at the values you suggested and see if this
helps.

I'm fairly new to InfoPath and IFS, so when you ask are the data connections
imbedded in the form or being managed by Sharepoint, are you talking UDC's.
If so, I have done it both ways, embedded in the form and converted the
dataconnections to UDC's.  It didn't seem to make a difference either way, as
I was still getting the timeouts.

I can get the form to a point where there are no timeouts, but if I add say
an additional button that changes some values, submits the form to the
library and sends an email, then propagate that out to several different
views, it breaks every time.  I can remove the new button, and it usually
fixes the problem.

Very frustrating.

Thanks for your help and I'll let you know if changing the values helps.

Hi Pam,

Yes, I was talking about UDC's.  Perhaps its the submit data connection that
is timing out?  That sounds unusual, but not impossible.  Does the forms
library you are submitting to have a large number of items?  Or is it
submitting to a custom web service?

Is your form very large?  There is an "undocumented' issue about timeouts
publishing large/complex forms to Infopath Forms Services, but it sounds like
your timeout is with the data connections, not with the publish process.
