I' m wondering where I may find informaion about how info path works on a
website?  Do you have to have sharepoint?  Can these forms be displayed and
filled out online?  Can the information from the form be gathered or the
entire form be sent from a website location to a data collection point or
e-mail?

Hello,

You can answer "yes" to all of your questions.  Look for information on
InfoPath Forms Services here:

web-based, supports email, submit all or part of the data, use web services,
etc.  You do require a version of SharePoint (either Windows SharePoint
Services which is free depending on your usage, or Microsoft Office
SharePoint Services Enterprise) to use InfoPath Forms Services.
