InfoPath/SharePoint: Attach Microsoft Office File with Form

We are having a problem with InfoPath (2003 SP1) forms and SharePoint (WSS
SP1).  When using a file attachment control in a form, we get this error
while saving it to the SharePoint server:

InfoPath cannot save the form.  The specified location is either not valid
or not available.  Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the
location is correct.

This error only occurs when we try to attach a Microsoft Office data file
(e.g. .doc, .xls, and .pps).  We have no problems attaching other file types
(e.g. .pdf, .jpg, .gif, .vsd, .zip, .htm, .xml, .txt, .rtf, and .csv) .

No file type restrictions have been specified in the control properties.  I
have tried changing the Office file locations, removing the file extensions,
using file names without spaces.

Does anyone know what could be preventing Office files from being attached?

I’m out of ideas.  Thanks.

We had a similar problem.  The field name used for naming of the file was a
text field that may end in an character that gererates an invalid file name.
In our case it was XYZ Inc.  The period at the end was generating a filename
of XYZ Inc..xml wich gerated the error you mentioned.
