I am new to infopath and would like to use some existing forms with SQL
server.  Is it possible to use an existing infopath form and create a SQL
database to attach to the form to collect data.

Thanks

Marc

Hi Marc,

InfoPath does not have the ability to dynamically create a database
structure based on its underlying XML. If you want to use InfoPath as the
"front-end" to your SQL Server database, you will want to create the
database structure first and then create your InfoPath solution from that
structure.

I hope this helps!

Thanks.  Is there a way to attached a database to an existing form.  I would
create the database based on the form and then attached?  The problem is we
have numerous existing forms that we plan to use OmniPage PRO 15 to scan and
turn into InfoPath forms.  I then need to be able to attached to a database
created based on the form.

Thanks, Marc

Hi Marc,

Not really, no. I've personally never attempted to take a form that was
build by simply adding controls and then convert that to a form based on a
database. You would have to extract the files and make numerous
modifications but I am not sure (without further testing) what all of those
would need to be. And then if it would work. There is no way to do this
through the GUI so the easiest approach is to build a solution from an
existing database structure.

Thanks.  I quess I knew the answer all along but was hoping for something I
didn't see or had missed.  You can't blame a guy for wanting to take a really
short short cut.

Thanks, Marc

Hi Marc -

We have InfoPath forms deployed to FormsServer where we connect to a backend
SQL2005 database, both for retrieving data to populate the form and for
collecting data from the form. We use webservices via dataconnections to do
this, following the typical SOA \ n-tier architecture (WebBased
Form-->WebService-->C#BizObj-->C#DataAccessObj-->SQL2005 ).

Hey Marc.

not sure if you are still working on this but you should check out the
Database Accelerator.  I think it might provide the solution you were looking
for.  It will database the form as well as the data within it.
