I have a very space limiting form that has many picklists. These picklist
use 2-3 character codes as the values However, the user wants to be able to
see the description for that code when the picklist is selected.
To accomplish this, I am using the list "Display name" field in the
following manner "code - description". When the picklist is not selected it
shows the code, which is the first part of the display value. However, since
the size of the dropdown list is so restricted in size, I cannot see the
"description" value in the rest of the display value.
Is there any way to expand the drop-down lists when selected to show the
entire contents of the Display value with changing the physical size of the
drop-down list on the form?

I know what you are referring to. Many applications will automatically expand the open list so that you can read everything. InfoPath, unfortunately doesn't allow this. I don't know of any way to force it to. Hopefully this will be corrected in a future release.
