i want to toggle views using the button.  i followed instructions on this but
when i double click the button to set the rule i don't see the 'rules' tab.
what am i doing wrong or is there something missing from my infopath?

There is no "Rules" tab, but a "Rules" button on the "General" tab on the
"Properties" dialog box that opens when you double-click on the button. Click
on that button to add rules.

i don't have such a button, i created the form manually.  is it not
available because the form is not connected to any database?

Did you add the button yourself to the form? Or is it a standard "New Record"
or "Run Query" button that InfoPath adds for you when you bind your form to a
data connection? In either case, when you double-click on the button to open
its "Properties" dialog box, what does the drop-down list box behind the
"Action" label on the "General" tab say? If it's not set to "Rules and Custom
Code", you won't see the "Rules" button.

Not sure what version of InfoPath you're using.

It looks like you have the release version without the service pack
installed. Try installing SP2 and see if it helps to solve your problem.
