i'm trying to use your lesson on this to learn how to use info path, but
when i get to no. 23 to add 5 default rows i don't have a tools>default
values function. has it been moved somewhere else? i'm stuck at this point,
and i can't complete the exercise.

I haven't looked for the example you're using, so I'm just going to
guess.
Is Default Values greyed out, or completely missing? If I make a blank
form, Default Values is present, but greyed out until I add a field. Do
you have any fields in your data source?
Hope this helps :)

there is a field which is bound to a row of buttons, so that the scores
assigned to each button can be summed and averaged. i create one row and
then am supposed to be able to insert duplicates of that row and change the
description of each duplicate row to create a survey like form. i can add
duplicate rows which only appear in preview and don't allow any editing at
that point.

If you have the full version of Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 with the
latest service packs installed, then the menu options should be available.
