I am very unclear on the concept of InfoPath.

I understand I can create forms with InfoPath, but how do I publish them?
IOW, how do I make them available to others after I create them?

Can I use them as an interface to a SQL Server database, install them on a
web server and just point a link to them?

Or do I have to use them with SharePoint?

In our case we have information in a SQL Server database.  I would like to
use InfoPath to quickly generate some forms that would allow a user to view
and edit information in the database.  Is this something InfoPath is
designed to support?

InfoPath is available for all of those scenarios.

All users must have InfoPath to fill out any form created by InfoPath.

In help on deploying or creating forms, there is a large amount of
information available at http://www.microsoft.com/infopath.  There you can
be directed to several other sites, downloads and development tutorials.
