Hi all,

As I understand, InfoPath 2007 can deploy to browser-based clients and
submit the resulting XML data to any web service which is exactly what we
need.

Still, can I deploy it without the ASP.NET server control (or the SharePoint
or Office Forms servers) ?

What I mean is to design the form using InfoPath but deploy it in a
non-microsoft server environment. Must I setup the complete
SharePoint/Office-Forms server for this? Any other options with lesser IT
impact ?

Thanks,
Assaf.

Hey Assaf,

In order for the form to submit data to a web service you need to manage
the submission by both the Infopath client and the browser form.  If not
managed carefully both form types will pass different credentials into
the Webservice.  The Infopath client will pass the users credentials
into the webservice and the browser form tries to pass the Form Services
credentials into the webservice.  As a result the browser enabled form
will fail when the call to the webservice is made and the InfoPath Form
client will succeed.

To overcome this issue one way is to configure the form to submit data
to a webservice via a data connection UDCX file which should exist in a
Data Connection Library on a Sharepoint site.  You will also need to
configure the UDCX file to submit to the webservice via the Webservice
Proxy.  You could also configure single sign-on but I have not done this
yet.

To sum up, it will most likely be easier to setup and use SharePoint and
Forms Server than to try and get around the security issues of Infopath
Client Forms and Browser-Enabled Forms connecting to a web service.
