This is default behavior in Office. After you've typed in the email or web
address, press on the [Backspace] key on your keyboard to remove the link. Or
position the cursor behind the email or web address and press once on
[Backspace] to remove the link.

Thanks, I tried that and for some reason as soon as the cursor is moved the
link returns.

When the link returns, hit [Backspace] again and it should go away.
