Hi Folks,
I have been using SharePoint for a while now, and have recently
upgraded my Office suite to 2007 including InfoPath.
I wanted to create a webbased form for reporting corrective actions /
non-conformances & preventative actions. I would then like users to
hit "submit" and it uploads to the sharepoint library. Now, I've got
halfway there, in that I've got a template, so using the 'fill out
form' in sharepoint opens the form and submit places it there.
How can I get IP or SP to add a unique ID to the form and/or SP ? A
simple next number in the list really.
Is it possible to have the prefix of that ID change depending on
wether the user has selected "corrective action" or "non conformance"
elsewhere on the form?
Should it be linked to Access ? Oh the routes for data entry are
bewildering.....
Thank you very much for any help / advice you can offer.

Paul,
InfoPath has the option to dynamically name the file when it is submitted.
When you create the datasource to submit the form to the SharePoint library
you have the option to define an expression that will determine the name of
the file based on data source elements. You also have the option to allow it
to overwrite the file if it already exists.
Hope that helps,
Simon.

I'd be grateful on the best way of doing this.
Ideally when a 'new form' is filled out, I would like it to instantly
(or when an option like non-conformance, corrective action is
selected) to generate a unique identifier number.
So, a user opens infopath form,
selects the type of problem they are reporting (corrective action,
preventative action) and the form assigns a unique code.
Any help would be most appreciated.
