Hi all,

I know this topic has been beaten to death, I have read a number of threads
the subject and I am nowhere close to figuring this out. Some suggestions
about writing code in the form or tying it to an SQL database are quite
confusing to say the least and some of the links to msdn tutorial do not
work.

Does there exist detailed information on how it si done?

I would like an infopath form to automatically number a field sequentially.

Thanks for all and any help you give me.

As far as I know, there is no way easily to do this

Even if you read the last number from a database and add 1, another user
could open the same form and then you wind up with two forms with the same
number.

The only possible way would be to create a databse record on form open to
get a number but then what would you do if the form was never completed and
submitted.

Thanks, I think I will just stick to making the number unique by trying to
use the now() function and the employee's number.

One would think that the amount of people that are trying to do this,
Infopath would have figured out a way...

Thanks again.

I totally agree with you, Socaprice, but with so many people wanting to do
this, why hasn't anyone created a suggestion for Microsoft? The more votes a
suggestion gets, the more likely it will get read by Microsoft and considered
for a future release of InfoPath. If you have a great idea for bettering the
product, please create a suggestion.
