How do I transfer the contents of a desktop to a new laptop

I am about to buy a new laptop Ram 1G; HD 60Gb & want to tranfer the total
contents of my Desktop to it. Both machines have Windows XP. How do I do it ?

Try to copy from HD disk to HD disk.
