It seems that once a form is replaced the old form can no longer be opened
and the information saved to the old form is also no longer able to be
accessed. It is imperative that this "old" form be accessible to access data
which was saved to that template.  Anyone have suggestions?

I have seen that problem as well and am curious if others have a solution.

You can always crack open the old form in Notepad and see the data

Even if I change the file name of the form, I will be prompted to replace the
old form.   If I replace the obsolete form, then I can't open the records
saved from that form.

Hello

If you have these forms submitted to the sharepoint, you can relink these
forms to connect to the New template.

Or else change the Publish URl in your old forms to point to your New
Template

Hope this will help you
