in office 2007 since I installed it If I load a file by double clicking on it
from within my My Documents folder Excel starts and loads an empty page.  If
I start Excel and then go to File/Open the Excel file loads perfectly. Does
anyone have an idea as to what is happening?

I had the same problem. I spoke with the support techs and found out that I
had a PDF.xla file in the XLSTART folders that was causing the problem.
Emptied all of the XLstart folders and that solved it.

Thanks!
