I have an excel spreadsheet which has on the left hand side in front of the
numbers an area with a + sign and when you click on this + sign it drops the
rows for example 4-8, and if I click on it again it hides them, how can I
create this?

Thanks

See Help for "Group or ungroup rows or columns in an outline"

You can get those outlining symbols in a couple of ways:

Data|subtotals
or
Data|Group and Outline

Hi

I often use the function when dealing with large spreadsheets.  Is there
some means of adding names rather than just having the + / - signs?  When
there is a summary column its no issue but there are times I have no such
column and loose track of what is hidden where.
