Excel 2003 - Start My Documents - Getting Nowhere

I can open Excel 2003, and from there retrieve the various excel files that
I have already created.
For some reason, I can no longer go directly to the file through my
workbook, or directories, and double click on the excel file, and get them
to open.
The tool bar in excel is open, but the content of the file does not appear
to open anymore.
Can anyone help in solving my problem?

I have tried uninstalling, and reinstalling the Microsoft Office 2003.
Rebooting.  I'm stuck.

Thanks
JH

Go through "my workbook" really should be go through "my computer"???

Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on
the file in windows explorer:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

Maybe one of these will work for you.
