I am trying to create a document that others can fill in without altering the
original socument can someone help me please

Pretty difficult to fill in cells without altering the original workbook.

I would create a Template then let users do their filling in on a workbook based
upon that Template.  The Template remains untouched.

Use Format/ Cells/ Protection to fix which cells are locked.
Use Tools/ Protection/ Protect Sheet, to prevent users changing locked
cells.
