Extracting numbers from text

complete. let me ask it clearly as below:

No wonder.  You gave no reason, in your requests or examples, to show points or
negatives.  That would have been easily remedied merely by making the
appropriate changes in "pattern".  But I'm glad you found a solution that works
for you.
