If you delete the PST file, you will delete your Inbox, Sent Items, Calendar
entries, etc. I imagine you wouldn't want to do that.
I would compact the PST, create another PST, then try to open Outlook and
move items to the new PST.
Let me know what happens.

Thanks for your prompt response. How do I compact the PST file and create a
new one?

Try the 2GB PST tool first, I think this might be a better way to go. You
will lose items but you should be able to recover the bulk of your PST.

You must have 2 GB of free hard disk space (to make a copy of the .pst file).
The utility truncates the .pst file to under 2 GB. To have enough working
space, truncate the file between 20 to 25 megabytes (MB) less than the 2 GB
limit. The truncated data is removed from the new copy, which means some
messages are missing from the recovered copy.

I downloaded the utility and after I select the pst file and create a
destination pst file I get an error stating I can only use the utility for a
file that is at least 190000000000 bytes. The pst file proprties shows that
it is 203,504 KB.

If the PST is that size, then it's about 10 times smaller than the limit it
can attain. 203,502 KB is 205Mb, not 2GB. The PST being too large isn't
your problem. Now the original poster, poor Sherry, has had her topic
hijacked and you apparently don't have "the exact same problem" as she as
you claimed originally.
Try using hte Inbox Repair Tool a few times on the PST and see if that
helps.

Sorry for "hijacking" poor Sherry's original post but I did have the exact
same problem. Outlook 2000 is not opening (her original post title). By the
way, looks like the original post was over a month ago with no further posts
by Sherry. New to this website so I apologize if I should have started a new
post.
Could you let me know where the Inbox Repair Tool is located?

It's usually in %CommonProgramFiles%\System\MSMAPI\1033 for U.S. English
installations. The program is named SCANPST.EXE.

Thanks for the reply. I ran SCANPST.EXE on the pst file twice and no issues
were found. When I try and open outlook it still crashes and asks me to repor
the error to Microsoft.
My McAfee antivirus software renewel was up the day this issue started. I
have not renewed. Could this be an issue?

You can test this by uninstalling the McAfee software.

Thanks Brian. That might be my next option. I needed to get to my email so I
started using Outlook Express and it worked just fine. Even has all of my
contacts from Outlook 2000. As you can tell, I am not too tech savy so
Outlook Express will probably have to work for now. I spent hours on Outlook
2000 and couldnt figure out the issue.
