I have indadvertantly changed the way the information is displayed in the
inbox.  I just want to go back to the way messages are normally displayed
with the list of incoming messages in the top pane and the contents in the
bottom pain. The version is 9.0.0.2711

Hi Geoff,

you could start Outlook with a command line "/Cleanviews".

This command line will "Restores default views. All custom views you created
are lost."

Have a look on this site for further information:

Maybe it helps.

It opened up but the display in the inbox is still the same.

To describe it a little better: It is all grey.  Each line is the name of
the sender. There is no other information.
When clicked on it displays underneath a list of all the messages received
from that sender.

You need to reset your sort to sort by Received date.  If that column is not showing, right click in the header and select Field Chooser and add the Received date to the column by dragging it there.  Close Field Chooser and click on the new column to sort by that column.
