If I've saved an email as a *.oft file, is there a way to quickly open the
file from within Outlook or do I have to find the file using File Explorer
and open it like a regular document?

In Outlook, the command would be Tools | Forms | Choose Form, but you'll need to browse the User Templates in File System. Not fast at all.

I was afraid of that. I was thinking about doing a html page with the
templates as links and then setting that as the homepage on a folder.

Maybe a user form that populates by reading the files in the directory? The
templates would all be saved in one specific folder. Once selected in the
list box, the template opens and the user form closes.

Workaround: I have created several new folders (I used Windows Explorer to
create them, not Outlook) on my hard drive for various categories of *oft
files. I moved the *oft files to those folders. Then I went back into Outlook
and accessed the Shortcuts pane. I added shortcuts to those new folders. Now
when I click one of the shortcuts an instance of Windows Explorer opens with
the array of *oft files ready for my selection. Works pretty well.

I had played with that about a year ago, but something wacky started
happening with the shortcuts - basically the links kept getting broken. Might
play with it again.

If you create a new button on the toolbar (using Tools > Customize and then
dragging any button to the toolbar), you can then modify it by right clicking
(leave the Customize dialog box open).  You need to Edit Hyperlink > Open,
make sure the "Existing File or Web Page" button is selected and then browse
to your *.oft file and click OK.  You can also change the button image and
give it a text title from the right click options.  When you have finished,
close the Customize dialog and then when you want to use your *.oft, just
click the button.
