New pc - Intel core 2 cpu 6700 dual core for 4GB RAM

running Vista Home Media Center 6.00.6000

I've moved Office 2003 from an XP system to the new pc.

I now want to export my Office 2003 pst to create a pst that is compatible
with Office 2000

Am unable to create new .pst file in the required format to export to using
File/New/Outlook Data File/Outlook97-200 Personal Folders File (.pst)    ---
Microsoft office is has stopped working  --- message comes up and Outlook
terminates and restarts.

Have also tried File / Export to a file / Personal Folder File (.pst)  ---
as soon as I type in the new file name, I get a message  --- The messaging
interface has returned an unknow error.  If the problem persists, restart
Outlook.     I tried 6 times and get the same message.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

Regards

Just another of the myriad reasons why exporting is never the correct way to
create a PST file. Follow these difficult steps to create a PST file:
File > New > Outlook Data File.
Select the correct file type.

Thanks Russ,

But as I indicated below....

So this isn't working either.....

Steve

Then you most likely corrupted this profile by the export attempt. Close
Outlook. Repair this PST file. Then create a new profile from scratch and
connect it to this PST file.
Create the new PST file in the correct format and copy what you want into
it.

Thanks Russ,

Have closed outlook,
run the SCANPST.exe - there were problems with it and they were corrected,
created a new outlook profile
deleted the old one
File > New > Outlook Data File > Outlook97-2000 Personal Folders File (.pst)
entered the filename and clicked ok
the following message came up
    Microsoft office has stopped working
then Outlook shutdown   and   automatically restarted

So, it's still not working   :-(

Did you give the profile a new, unique name and outfit it with the correct
transport(s)?
Did you rerun Inbox Repair until no errors were returned?
Do you have a backup of this PST file?

Yes - gave it a unique name, but not sure what you mean by "outfit it with
the correct transport(s)"

YES

Yes - but not a current one

I was asking if you configured your mail accounts fully in this new profile.
Data transfer may rely on those transports so it would be important to have
a fully functional profile.
I've seen exporting corrupt a lot of profiles, but I've never seen a new
profile not solve the issue. I suspect there is more in play here. Unless
you have other information to impart about the steps to repro, I'd suggest a
quick search for that error message in the KB so you can see the many other
issues you should look at.
