I'm using Outlook 2007.  When I right click on the junk email folder, the
"delete junk email" command is not available.  I've checked all my settings
and I can't find out what the problem is.

Possibly because it's Empty "Junk E-Mail" Folder and not delete junk email?
What are the first three items on the right click menu?  What server type?

The folder does contain junk mail - I've been having to delete them
individually!  The command appears on the menu when I right-click but it is
"de-highlighted", i.e. unavailable.  Thanks for responding.

What type of mail server?  Exchange?  POP?

First thing I would try is exiting outlook and going to Start - Run -
outlook /safe and seeing if you can do it then.

If not, a Detect and Repair from the Help menu might be in order, since
there isn't anything in the product to disable it, unless you're on an
Exchange server and the admins have disabled that function (assuming it even
is disableable).

Are you using server-based filtering (like with Exchange Server), or the
Outlook junk mail filter, or something else (like Norton Anti-spam)?

Is junk mail actively going into it?  If not, could it be left over from
another installation of another anti-spam program you're not using any more?
