I have journal entries linked to .doc's, .tif's, .csv's, .xls'. However, after a recent reinstall of Vista and Office I now get the above message when clicking on the journal entries that are linked to these files. I cannot un-check the box because it is greyed out. All I want to do is to un-check this box. How do I do it? Interesting... these used to be per-machine settings, not per user, so it wasn't possible to change the checkbox without being logged in as a local adminstrator under XP. I wondered if the same was true of Vista, but I just tried it and it worked fine for me with a normal 'user' account and UAC switched on. However, you could try launching Internet Explorer as a local administrator account (if you haven't already disabled User Access Control), put the path to one of these files in the URL bar, and see if you're able to change the setting when the popup appears and whether it sticks. Really though, this is a Windows/Internet Explorer setting, just Outlook is using it. If my suggestion doesn't work, you might have more luck posting to an IE or Vista group. Try it by putting the path of any document of the type you want to change the setting for into the URL bar, e.g. c:\documents and settings\yourname\... \whatever.doc or whatever.pdf etc. Doing that from IE instead of Windows Explorer should force the confirmation prompt. I did this, got the prompts that you said, unchecked the box and then went back to the contact, clicked on the journal entry and still had the same problem. > Sorry, I should have been clearer. All I want to do is to un-check > > > > this box. How do I do it? Wait! Logging into Outlook as the admin solved the problem. I was able to see the boxes and uncheck each item. Right idea, wrong program. So it actually was an Outlook issue not an IE one. Bryan > Sorry, I should have been clearer.
