Archiving misses items

I applied the "Archive .. using default settings" choice for the AutoArchive
property of all my mail folders, and set the default folder settings to
"older than 4 months".

Plainly items are being moved to the archive folder. However, there is still
a large number of mail items well over 4 months old in the active mail
folders - interestingly the overwhelming majority of these archive escapees
have attachments.

Am I overlooking to set some property?

Archiving works on the modified date of items which can be altered in a few
ways - copying is one. If you want to see if a message fits the archiving
criteria check its modified date.
