Outlook repeatedly hangs up and I have to restart it.  It seems to be
waiting for Excel even though I have NOT tried to copy/paste from Excel,
attach a spreadsheet or otherwise have any interaction between Outlook &
Excel.

any suggestions appreciated

Anything in the event viewer that displays an eventID and source?

Don't know.  If it happens again, I will look for that information.
thanks for the quick reply.
Just installed 15 Vista updates this morning - my usual approach after
experiencing any difficulties is to check for updates.

The information will still be readily available in your event viewer.
